Geoquest Australia has recently achieved a major milestone with the successful delivery of a landmark mine infrastructure project near Boddington in Western Australia. At the heart of the development stands a record-breaking feat of engineering — the installation of Geoquest’s TechSpan precast concrete arch, the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

The mine project was developed to unlock critical transport and operational infrastructure to support future mining activities in the region. The scope included the construction of new haul roads, infrastructure platforms, and utility relocations. A standout element of the project was the installation of Geoques’s TechSpan arch over the Pinjarra-Williams Road, a key transport corridor.

Geoquest Australia was responsible for the full design and manufacture of the TechSpan solution, while the project’s lead contractor handled construction and installation on site.

Key figures

  • Span: 21 metres – the widest TechSpan ever installed in the Southern Hemisphere
  • Length: 37 metres
  • Installation duration: 2 days

The successful completion of this record-breaking structure reflects the expertise, collaboration and engineering precision of all project partners.

Advantages of concrete arches

  • Faster project delivery: precast elements reduce onsite construction time.
  • Custom design: each precast concrete arch is tailored to meet specific project requirements.
  • Long service life: precast concrete arches, such as TechSpan, are designed for a 100-year service life
  • Resilience to environmental factors: concrete arches are highly resistant to weathering, aggressive environments, and erosion, contributing to their longevity and reliability in various conditions.
