Necessary river management involves developing flow diversions, straightening or widening, and to control water levels, flow velocity and erosion.

These important measures are intended to mitigate flooding and turbulence that left unchecked, could cause serious damage to vital surroundings. Geoquest offers a wide range of solutions to address river training for both new structures as well as restorations and strengthening. Our widely acclaimed river training solutions consist mainly of earth retention systems which stand alone, or can be combined with other control measures.

Our offer covers:

Reinforced soil longitudinal structures (RSS)

Mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) structures combine controlled backfill with a selection of geosynthetic or steel soil reinforcements that are attached to a choice of flexible facing elements to form a solid river training longitudinal structure such as river walls supporting transport infrastuctures, quay walls or levees. Our RSS selection includes several types of MSE solutions: Reinforced Earth®, ArmaGreen®, ArmaStone®, Terratrel®, Geotrel®, TerraLink®.

In addition to RSS retaining wall solutions, Geoquest offers T-Wall®, an articulating precast concrete modular wall solution, and TechWall™, a full-height precast concrete counterfort retaining wall solution. Both of these solutions are highly suited for building river training structures in restrictive locations.

Transversal structures

Weirs, check dams and groynes are transversal structures which help controlling water courses flows and protecting banks against erosion. Reinforced Earth® solutions for such works provide construction flexibity, strength and durability.

Conveyance culverts

Buried precast concrete arches, steel arches and prefabricated “box” structures are ideal for performing as buried aqueducts for channeling water flow. These robust solutions also support transportation crossings that are needed above river training routes.

Geosynthetic solutions

Building or rehabilitating river training structures normally requires erosion control measures through soil strenthening and stabilization using geogrid reinforcement. Likewise, geotextiles play a major part in assuring long-term stability by providing proper drainage and filtration:

Geoquest offers both passive and active TerraNail™ soil stabilization and TerraAnchor™ anchoring solutions for slopes and embankments, and all types of earth retention.

Regardless of the type of earth retention solution chosen to build the river training or channel structures, we offer fascia elements and attachment details to secure and externally stabilize retained embankments or alternative structures.

For all of Geoquest solutions for river training and channeling, our engineers will address existing and predicted conditions. We evaluate the risks associated with fluctuating water levels, flow velocity, drainage, water pressures, cavitation, corrosion, and debris impact.
