The Lakeshore East Joint Corridor Early Works in Toronto are part of the new Ontario Line, a 15.6 km subway project improving mobility, public transport capacity, and urban connectivity across the city. Linking Exhibition Place to Line 5 Eglinton at Don Mills Road, this infrastructure supports sustainable urban development.
Upgrades to the Lakeshore East rail corridor between Gerrard Street East and Eastern Avenue will accommodate six tracks, including two dedicated to the Ontario Line alongside GO and VIA Rail services, strengthening service reliability and future network integration.
The project also prioritizes environmental impact and quality of life for nearby residents. Transparent noise barriers, approximately five meters high, are being installed on both sides of the corridor to maintain or reduce sound levels, while landscaping and community consultation ensure positive integration into the surrounding urban environment.
Within this context, Geoquest Canada supplied T-Wall precast concrete gravity walls. These modular units provide robust support for active rail operations and form the foundation for the noise barriers. T-Wall is a durable precast modular gravity retaining wall system. Each reinforced concrete unit features a perpendicular stem attached to a facing panel, forming a “T” shape that ensures stability and efficient load distribution. The panels also incorporate an architectural finish inspired by the local community, enhancing adjacent public spaces and blending the infrastructure into its urban setting.
Congratulations to the Geoquest Canada team and all project stakeholders for their collaboration and commitment throughout the successful delivery of this project.
